One small problem I did notice with these high-res textures is that if you leave the game idle for more than a minute or two the textures will turn black, forcing you to restart the game.
Make sure the extracted files are for your use only :) The HTC and DAT file formats are there to protect the images from being used in other texture packs if I've understood correctly.

You probably don't have to install git and tar there, but for some reason my machine didn't have those utilities so I kept the commands in just in case.Īlso, if you decide to extract the files, please do not upload them online extracted. The other ones are a '.zip' that I extract and place in the texture folder as per the docs. I found a place that has texture packs for N64, but they are in '.htc' file format. Make sure you understand what you are doing first before doing it. They work great, but due to the limit list of available texture packs, I started looking around a bit more.

This code is just to show what I did to get it working. DAT suffix, you'd replace all instances of "gliden64-cache-extract" with "glide64-cache-extract", which is the equivalent script for DAT files on GitHub. Then just copy the new THE LEGEND OF ZELDA folder to /home/pi/.local/mupen64plus/hires_texture/ on your retropie setup. Zcat "THE_LEGEND_OF_ZELDA.htc" | gliden64_cache_extract -b -p "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA" | tar xįor i in *.bmp do convert -strip -define png:format=png32 -define png:compression-level=9 "$.png" done (at this point, copy the HTC file to the newly created textures folder and rename it to THE_LEGEND_OF_ZELDA.htc) Sudo chown root /usr/local/bin/gliden64_cache_extract Sudo cp gliden64_cache_extract /usr/local/bin Below is what I did.ĭISCLAIMER FOR ANYONE DOING THIS OR ANYTHING ELSE ON LINUX! NEVER FOLLOW ANY COMMANDS FROM THE INTERNET WITHOUT AT LEAST SOMEWHAT KNOWING WHAT THEY DO!!! (for all you know, the friendly tutorial poster online might just be feeding you a script that destroys your computer) sudo apt-get install git I have checked the emulators.cfg file and the same command should be being sent however the behavior is definitely different. Sometimes none of the texture pack is loaded at all.

The tutorial in the above link will work for windows machines, but it's a bit easier in my opinion to do it in linux (no need to install Cygwin etc). and launch the texture pack is not fully loaded. So in order to use HTC texture packs with GlideN64 you need to extract them first. Launched a game, the texture pack I loaded did not load, and when going back to mupen 64plus. Then I ran Retropie-Setup updated retropie setup, updated mupen64plus from binary. Give me a moment, I'll boot up my linux machine and try this myself to see if it works.ĮDIT: It works great and looks AMAZING! Almost 30 minutes in the Pi still runs cool and the gameplay is smooth. Specifically Use high-resolution texture packs if available. Link which concerns DAT files, it will work for HTC files as well. You need to extract the HTC file, inside that one you'll find the texture BMPs which you then need to convert into PNGs. Like I said, I've got Hi Res Textures working for StarFox and Mario but no luck with Zelda running both: and I just can't seem to get them to load. I've tried copying just it over, copying all the files over, moving things around, etc. home/pi/.local/share/mupen64plus/hires_texture/THE LEGEND OF ZELDAīut when you unzip the file they give you, you wind up with a group of folders and one large file named: "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA_HIRESTEXTURES.htc" I've got a few directories in there that correspond with the Core Names of roms i'm using. home/pi/.local/share/mupen64plus/hires_texture Use high-resolution texture packs if available.Įnable hi-resolution texture file loading
